Our NIM Culture Café get-togethers are informal gatherings designed to bring people together from diverse backgrounds to share, celebrate, and learn about different cultures. They provide a welcoming and inclusive space where individuals can engage in meaningful conversations, exchange experiences, and build connections through food, music, art, and storytelling.

The aim of these events is to introduce Malta’s history, culture, and customs while fostering cultural awareness, understanding, and appreciation. By encouraging open discussions and activities that showcase traditions, customs, and perspectives from around the world, the Culture Café helps strengthen community ties in a relaxed and friendly environment. These gatherings are particularly valuable for fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting social cohesion, and creating opportunities for personal growth through shared experiences. Participants benefit by gaining new cultural insights, expanding their social networks, and developing a deeper appreciation of the diverse communities that make up Maltese society.

Apart from a few exceptions, our Culture Café get-togethers take place at Ta’ Detta Restaurant, which also serves as the Sede Social of NWAMI International Malta. The venue is easily identifiable by a plaquette bearing the organisation’s logo at the entrance. Located at the historic Valletta Waterfront, Ta’ Detta provides the perfect setting for these events. Once a bustling hub of maritime trade, the Valletta Waterfront has long been a gateway for cultural exchange, making it an ideal place for NWAMI International Malta’s mission to promote cross-cultural understanding and meaningful connections. Against this picturesque backdrop, our Culture Cafés continue the tradition of bringing people together through shared experiences, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration in an ever-diversifying Malta.

Culture Café 26th April 2025 Theme: “The Chocolate Connection: Bridging Cultures with Cocoa”

Update on Chocolate Connection Culture Cafe We would like to thank everyone who has signed up for our Chocolate Connection Culture Cafe and to confirm that the event will proceed, as planned, tomorrow Saturday 26 April at 10:30am. Our Culture Cafes exist to promote intercultural dialogue, social peace and justice. Chocolate itself is, for many around the world, a symbol of shared love between people. It brings people together and is a conversation started and gives us hope that life can become better and sweeter. The ideals and the message of these events, we feel, are ones His Holiness Pope Francis fully shared. For this reason, we believe that proceeding with our event will be the best way to honour his legacy. We look forward to seeing you all at Ta’ Detta on the Valletta Waterfront.

Join us for a captivating Culture Café as we delve into the fascinating world of chocolate and its profound ability to bridge cultures. Renowned food scientist & chocolatier Àmer Wahoud, the visionary behind Sunday in Scotland, will guide us through a unique chocolate-tasting experience and share his journey of reinventing the chocolate experience with his exquisite artisan creations. Together with Àmer Wahoud we will explore chocolate’s extraordinary role in connecting diverse traditions and societies throughout history.

From its sacred significance in the rituals of ancient Mayan and Aztec civilisations to its introduction to Europe and eventual rise as a global delicacy, we’ll examine cocoa’s historical, cultural, and culinary evolution. The discussion will highlight how chocolate has been a medium of cultural exchange and a symbol of shared human connection across continents and generations. Contribution per person € 15
