Multicultural Zero Waste Cuisine Workshops:

Welcome to our Foodwise Families Multicultural Zero Waste cooking workshop series! Over four sessions, each lasting three hours, kids and their families will dive into a fun culinary journey celebrating diversity and environmental care. We’ll focus on using whole ingredients and teach practical kitchen skills while also learning about sustainable living, starting from how we shop for, store, cook food and recycle using our Zero Food Waste Life cycle.

Space is limited to 18 participants per session, so be sure to sign up early! During the workshops, families will cook together, learning to reduce food waste and make delicious, healthy meals.

But it’s not just about cooking – our workshops are also about sharing cultures and bringing generations together. By cooking side by side, local, expat, and migrant families will build connections and enjoy the shared experience of making food together.

Come along as we explore new flavours, build community, and empower ourselves. Let’s create healthier eating habits, care for the environment, and strengthen family bonds through the magic of food

Meet our Facilitators

Nadia Cassar

Green Fingers Club Malta

Workshop 1

Nadia Cassar, the dynamic facilitator of our first Foodwise Families Child & Parent Zero Waste Cooking Workshop brings a wealth of expertise and passion to the table. Nadia, a Zero Waste advocate creates delicious food from scratch, showing how one’s own house can become one’s own little restaurant.

Nadia’s workshops offer not only culinary guidance but also a transformative journey towards mindful consumption. Through her workshops, she instils not only practical cooking techniques but also a profound understanding of the interconnectedness between food, sustainability, and personal responsibility.

With over 37 years dedicated to nurturing plants, 10 years focused on home food cultivation, and 5 years committed to regenerative farming, Nadia embodies a deep-rooted connection to sustainable practices. As the founder and visionary behind Green Fingers Club, nestled in the picturesque landscape of Fomm ir-Rih, Bahrija, her mission resonates clearly: to educate, empower, and inspire individuals of all ages to embrace conscious living and to learn how to grow organic food, even on their own balcony.

Nadia discovered her passion for nature when she received her first plant at the tender age of 6. From then onwards, her love for plants took over her entire life.

Her dream is to see every citizen confident in growing food, living sustainably, and making a difference for a better, greener, and more peaceful world.

Nadia’s Motto: Let’s Make Malta Green Again!

Sara Borg

Workshop 2

Sara Borg is a highly acclaimed certified nutritional therapist with over 12 years of experience in health and wellness. She has been a guest nutritionist and host for the TRiFOCAL project, an EU life programme project led by resource London to prevent food waste and she also hosted a workshop in aid of World Hunger Day, with rust Payments Ltd.

Her mission is to educate, inform and inspire clients and the public about the powerful benefits of food and lifestyle medicine, helping them pave the way to lasting health and wellbeing. Sara has extensive experience in the health and food industry such as public speaking, cooking workshops, TV interviews, corporate health talks, recipe development and food consultancy. In 2019, she launched her private practice (Balance – Nutrition & Wellbeing) offering one-to-one consultations, nutritional programmes and workshops for clients both locally and internationally.

Sara’s story:

“I grew up in the outskirts of a rural village in Malta, which meant I was always in touch with   high-quality, seasonal produce. As a teen I was experimenting in the kitchen and honing my craft and creativity as a healthy home cook. I began my career in health and wellness at the age of 18, as a holistic therapist and eventually spa manager for our family-run business. Working

with clients ‘on the surface’ invited me to investigate health on a deeper level

through my lifelong passion for food. In 2015, I enrolled at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London, where I studied for four years and graduated as a Nutritional Therapist. During this

time I launched Balance – a platform for sharing simple, healthy recipes, as

well as a line of homemade products for retail.

Nutrition is an ever-changing field and I’m constantly expanding my knowledge and practice through regular educational courses. I am currently advancing my qualifications through a BSc Hons degree in Nutritional Therapy.”
